More spandex. More stunts. More destruction. More incredible powers. More yawns. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 wouldn’t live up to its billing even if it were called The Adequate Spider-Man. Thanks to phoned-in, factory-produced efforts like this one, with each new superhero movie, super-fatigue threatens to become a super-serious problem. Here’s a look at the five most superfluous, extraneous, unnecessary superhero movies of the last five years.

1. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Andrew Garfield’s cockiness makes you long for the sweetness of Tobey Maguire, and the script doesn’t help him at all by having Spidey issue jocular, punny one-liners as he’s battling goofy villains like Rhino (Paul Giamatti, giving a Nicolas Cage-level tutorial in how to overact), Green Goblin (a completely unscary Dane DeHaan) and the soon-to-be-notorious Electro (Jamie Foxx), a shockingly low-voltage clown who fires electricity out his fingertips. The romance between Peter Park and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone, who has the brisk cuteness of a stage brat without ever making the audience fall in love with her) seems forced, and the gigantic special-effects sequences are all bluster and boom, no genuine drama. You’ve seen everything in this movie before.

Wolverine was all about giving Hugh Jackman his own movie. Probably in his contract.

Pointless? How about we start with the idea of rebooting Spiderman less than ten years after McGuire's version! My God are they so devoid of ideas? And every Spiderman story starts with his origin. I just saw the same damn film!

Yes, they are devoid of ideas. So they film based on name recognition, so Spiderman, Batman, Superman, etc.

I saw a commercial for earth day by the actor in Spider-Man. That was enough to make me not want to see the movie. I believe in voting with my feet.

Why the need for superheroes?
I've never understood it.
I suppose they compensate for the helplessness of childhood.

I liked Man of Steel for story and cast but the over the top special effects came close to ruining it for me. I guess I am an old fart.

It's those sophisticated foreigners. They keep putting these masterpieces into the black. How long does it take to saturate a market of 6-1/2 billion people?

Spiderman 2 blows. We watched it last night and I want my ten dollars.

You could have made this 10 or even more and still not run out of stinkers.

X-Men 3, at least 2 Superman movies, one or two Batman movies, and that's just off the top of my head.

But really, is Amazing Spider-Man 2 really worse than Superman IV: The Quest for Peace or Batman & Robin?

"But really, is Amazing Spider-Man 2 really worse than Superman IV: The Quest for Peace or Batman & Robin?"

Agreed. Superman iV (Superman III comes to mind, too) and Batman & Robin were the cinematic equiv of what you dump out of a birdcage.

Y'know, some people on this thread didn't care for Ghost Rider 2, but at least that thing had some cheerfully creative mayhem that the first one could've used, and I certainly rate it above those other two afore mentioned clunkers.

Can't speak for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which I've no plans to see because I'm not seeing the point of such an early rebooted series...

The first Ghost Rider movie was so lame I'm shocked they green lighted a sequel, which was even worse.
