Well, Cinderella came from an ancient Chinese tale. Only fragments of it remain, and you probably don't remember seeing the parts about a magic fish bone granting the girl her lovely clothes or the wicked step-mother and bad sisters being killed by flying stones in any of the later versions, but there you have another fairy tale with its origins in ancient myths. (I have to admit: while it might be a little too deus ex machina for a modern adaptation of Cinderella to end with all the villainous ladies being struck down by meteorites, that *would* be a pretty funny stinger for the ending credits.)
