Kyle MacLachlan on Showgirls: ‘I Went Into That Film With the Best of Intentions…’
via Kyle MacLachlan Thought ‘Showgirls’ Would Be A ‘Hard-Hitting’ Drama – Starpulse.com.
He tells Britain’s Metro newspaper, “I went into that film with the best of intentions. (Director) Paul Verhoeven and (writer) Joe Eszterhas were at the top of their game and I trusted they’d deliver something that would be controversial and hard-hitting. It turned into something completely different…”
“Only when it was assembled and I saw it for the first time, I thought, ‘Oh boy, this isn’t going to be pretty.’ Everyone has their Showgirls. We remember the great films actors have been in and the rest get forgotten. But occasionally, people like to revisit the ones that get swept aside.”

“Showgirls” is, without exception, the worst film I have ever seen. It is so transcendently bad that it almost defies description. The behaviour of the characters is so totally divorced from any actual human conduct that one could almost suspect that the screenwriter was from an alien species. Still, it is worth a viewing, if only as a cautionary tale.
TARNATION, NOW HOLD ON A DANG MINUTE YOUNG MR. ANDREW!, YOU AIN’T BEEM OUTTA THE CORN FILED LONG ENOUGH TO MAKE THAT STATEMENT…

I never read posts which are written in all-caps.
If anyone else bothered, please tell me whether the poster said anything worthwhile.
Given that the first word in said post is “Tarnation!” I’m going to assume that the all-caps button was used in place of the non-existent sarcasm tag.
But here’s your PSA:
Humans speed-read by recognizing the shape of words. We don’t normally read every character in text. By using all caps, you change the shape of all your words to generic RECTANGLES. It’s painful to read. So stop.
Any movie that features Gina Gershon or Jennifer Tilly is OK by me. I know they were in bad movies, I don’t care. The pleasure of looking upon them is enough for me.
For the life of me, I don’t see how Showgirls is any worse than the typical Hollywood dreck people see in droves, almost all of which is lowest-common-denominator garbage. Speaking of which, Elizabeth Berkley’s naked bod gives Showgirls at least one saving grace.
I thought it was a good movie, not in any conventional way, but as a kind of aggravated soap opera or pulp fiction. It was entertaining, which is my measure of cinematic success.
So look fellas, that Redball 6 guy, is r likely is an old AP or UPI person, where All caps was acceptable.
He will pass shortly, not to worry. He did have an interesting point or points abou the females in the film. And so its “DRECK” ok but no body shanghaied you to see it.
