Obama in 2009: 'One-Term Proposition' Unless Economy Righted

Making the rounds today is this interview of newly-inaugurated President Obama from early in 2009, just as the air began to rush out of Hopenchange and Unicorns and rainbows:

For those who don’t wish to sit through it (trust me, I understand), here’s the relevant quote from the Chicago Tribune’s appropriately named Swamp Politics from blog back then:

“I’m in the start of my administration,” Obama told NBC’s Matt Lauer.

“I will be held accountable,” the president said. “I’ve got four years and…. A year form now, I think people are going to see that we’re starting to make some progress, but there’s still going to be some pain out there…. If I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition. ”

Expect to see this quote get a workout in the next year and a half, especially if the economy continues to flat-line, or worse.
