Racial Epithets to overrun Sunday Television
“National Journal’s Hirsh: Time for a moral sanction against gun metaphors similar to the ‘N’ word,” Jeff Poor writes at the Daily Caller:
National Journal’s Michael Hirsh wants to raise the bar on decorum to an entirely new level. On Thursday’s MSNBC airing of “Hardball,” Hirsh told host Chris Matthews certain “gun” terms should be stricken from political discourse and referred to instances where Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann and former Republican Nevada senatorial candidate Sharon Angle used such off-limits language.
“Well we don’t want any more duels and thankfully that was the last one,” Hirsh said. “[B]ut the point I was trying to make is you can draw a line particularly in the use of certain kinds of metaphors. The use of gun metaphors – killing, murdering, taking out, which was another metaphor for a – Michele Bachmann used in one of her statements, Sharon Angle – the Nevada Senate candidate’s now infamous comment about quote, unquote, ‘second amendment remedies’ to deal with the problem Harry Reid, her opponent.”
His proposal? Make such language inappropriate in the same racial slurs are inappropriate.
That’s the kind of language I think we got to have a hard think about now,” Hirsh said. “Do we really want to continue to use that kind of language at these levels? Or, should there be kind of a social sanction, not a legal one, but a moral sanction in the way that we’ve stopped using certain epithets like the ‘n’-word public forums. Stop using that kind of language, those kinds of metaphors.”
Why, there’s even a narrow-interest cable channel that reaches millions of viewers while using such hateful militaristic rhetoric 24 hours a day. Imagine how they are influencing impressionable minds, with language such as this:
- The Blitz
- The Bomb
- The Crackback
- The Red Zone
- The Special Teams Gunner
- The Shotgun
- The Suicide Squad
- Tackle
- The Trenches
I await Hirsh’s condemnation of the war and firearm-related language we are sure to hear throughout the day tomorrow on multiple network and cable channels.
Not to mention imagery such as this.

The Left has spent the last 30 years trying to make any expression of conservative viewpoints “inappropriate”, no matter how they’re phrased.
Couldn’t agree more!
Hypocracy doesn’t darn on these people; shouldn’t they also think first about their ‘rhetoric’ regarding Nazi, racists, homophobe, islamophobe, just to name a few?
One thing I they need to understand, we are onto them-projecting on us their actions no longer works.

The moderate forces of the
LeftCenter are leading their most effective advance ever. Our militaristic language, metaphors, and symbols are under attack. Soon they will be removed from us. Without them, we will be unable to create any enthusiasm, and will be wimps before theLeftistCentrist advance.Without “target”, we will only be able to “direct our attention to”. Without “attack” we will be left with “raise our concerns in respectful ways”. We will sink below the waves of hyper-civil discourse, while our
oppositionfriends of differing viewpoint use these same weapons against us with devastating effect. We have prepared for this eventuality. We now implement Contingency Plan 36.
=== ===
Turn your official word processor to mode “P36″. All uses of “target”, “attack”, “oppose”, “crush”, “eliminate” and numerous other violent words will automatically be replaced with “bunny”. This will seem awkward and ungrammatical at first, but you will quickly adapt.
Instead of crosshairs, circles, pointers, or sharp angles, use the supplied outline of a cute bunny for the desired graphic emphasis.
Remember also that one of the allowed meanings of bunny is “to love and be best friends with”, according to context. Report this meaning if you are captured and questioned.
=== ===
Thus rhetorically prepared, we will go forth to bunny those who disagree with us politically.
Remember the words of Winston Churchill at a time of similar challenge, as converted: “We shall respectfully hinder the invasion of our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall bunny on the beaches, we shall bunny on the landing grounds, we shall bunny in the fields and in the streets, we shall bunny in the hills; we shall never surrender.”
The left is still trying to wring what it can from the Tucson atrocity. They make me think of the guy who missed the lottery jackpot by one number, staring at his card somehow hoping that the errant digits will magically change.
When will someone speak out against the carnage Comedy Central is committing nightly with these comedians who speak of “slaying them,” “dying out there” and “knocking them dead?” How many more children must die before we put an end to this? (Especially children named Kenny, who seem to have an appallingly high mortality rate on the network…)
‘Meaning’ is mean. The spirit of meaning is mean-spirited. Off with it said!
“I’m sorry sir but not only has your racism card expiered but also you PC speech card. Now I must ask you to leave or will I have to call security.”
What don’t these idiots understand about the words “Free Speech”? That means being able to express your views the way that you see things using terms and descriptions that aid you in expressing your feeling.
Public office holders cannot be slandered or defamed. These must be held up to the light and examined carefully for imperfections, then, as part of our civic duty, we must express our opinions to all that will listen, about what we have seen, heard, read, and found through research that we consider to be important enough to share with everyone we can reach.
We as individuals have to be careful about how we talk about other individuals, providing proof and reasoning for our opinions, least we become guilty of slandering and/or defaming another individual entity.
Public officials must remember that everything they do and say must pass the newspaper test or, nowadays, the Internet test or they will be held accountable. This is the way it should be.
Do nothing wrong, have nothing to worry about. Remember that people should not fear government, government must fear the people.
People must also remember that citizens without guns are slaves. With this in mind I don’t think many will give up their rights to own guns even if they don’t want to at this time. There are others that want to and want to for one of the underlying reason for the second amendment. The people must be able to defend themselves against government run amok. Have we reached amok yet?
They understand free speech. They just don’t like it.
Is not a Hardball also a Full Metal Jacketed bullet?
Yes. The military designation for full metal jacket ammunition is “Ball.” It’s left over from the days when the bullets were actual balls. The gun community often refers to that stuff as hard ball, as opposed to soft pointed and hollow pointed stuff.
To the political point, this is just another attempt by the Fascist Left to impose Newspeak. If the words are taken away, you cannot form inappropriate thoughts. This is doubleplus ungood.
“Well we don’t want any more duels and thankfully that was the last one,” Hirsh said.
Interesting choice of words considering the term “duel” is gun related . Perhaps this is an example of the metaphor Hirsh wants us to avoid? Perhaps he should start with himself. Perhaps the left should keeps their hands off the first amendment
Yes, someone should write a whole post about the violence wrought by sports-talk hate speech! Oh, wait…
Or as George Carlin would have said in his classic Football/Baseball sketch; “The object in football is to march down field and penetrate enemy territory, and get into the end zone; in baseball, the object is to go home! “I’m going home! And, in football, they have the clip, the hit, the block, the tackle, the blitz, the bomb, the offense and the defense; in baseball, they have.. the sacrifice.”
I guess we’re all baseball players now.
Come on!
The only football term that really bothers leftists is the “Hail Mary”
“Time for a moral sanction against gun metaphors similar to the ‘N’ word.”
I like it, that means only someone that owns a gun can use the metaphors, right. Cause blacks use the “N” word quite a bit. Dems will be at a loss of words.
You forget the horrible “naked” bootleg. I’m sure that offends someone, and is probably thr root cause of the streakers that always show their , uh, their …..uh…, faces in the playoffs.
I noticed last week that Al Sharpton was talking about civil discourse on MTP last week. For all of David Gregory’s faux serious earnestness, I couldn’t get past the fact that one of his panelists had targeted a public official with vicious slander and that the said panelists objected to the hypocrisy. I doubt that Steven Pagones would find it amusing.
