Great Moments In Christmas Retailing

There do seem to be more retailers willing to wish the small minority of 90 percent or so of their customers who celebrate the holiday a Merry Christmas this year, but not all of course.
Every year I get the otherwise handsome Brooks Brothers “Holiday” catalogs, and every year, I wonder why they can’t be bothered to put out at least one catalog with the word Christmas on the cover, as L.L. Bean, located in the post-capitalist wastelands of Vermont does. [Update: well, near-ish, I suppose -- Ed] On the other hand, perhaps I should be thankful for small favors — it could always be worse. Far worse:
- “Transvestites, Mao And Obama Ornaments Decorate White House Christmas Tree” — courtesy of Simon Doonan, creative director of Barney’s New York.
- Build-A-Bear comes out of the closet as yet another leftwing polar bear-hating group.
- John Nolte of Big Hollywood spots the leftwing sucker punch within the new Jim Carrey-voiced animated version of A Christmas Carol.
(Above video from 2007; one man’s easy solution to catalogs whose proprietors can’t bring themselves to utter the C-word.)

Hi Ed,
Merry Christmas. I’m afraid I must be the bearer of a correction, which is why I prefaced it with a Christmas greeting. LL Bean is located on Freeport, Maine. Though there are a number of catalogers located in VT, LL Bean is not among them.
Joe,
Whoops! Was it over when the Germans bombed Montpelier? Or the Japanese attacked Kennebunkport, for that matter?
I knew I should have Googled their HQ’s address before writing this quicky post.
Merry Christmas,
Ed
