The iPod played the live version of Billy Joel’s “I’ve Loved These Days.” One of his better early songs, but the best version is on Joel’s kind-of concert album, “Songs In The Attic.”

So Melissa and I started talking about songs about wasted youth, and realized we both have a really deep attraction to them. So we talked it out more and figured out why: Not wasting your youth is like leaving bacon on the plate. And that would be wrong.
