Two possible calamities to watch for.

As we move towards and through Basra, there’s a very real danger of Shi’ite retributation against local Sunni Muslims. Our guys are good, and ready for such events — but they can’t be everywhere.

Second, Iraqi IV Corps (if I recall correctly) was reported last week to be up against the Iranian border, prepared to funnel refugees south to slow down our advance. “Funnel” is a nice word meaning “shoot the ones in front so the rest run the other way.”

And you know who’ll take the blame for either tragedy.
