Dems Slam Pompeo as 'Abortion-Obsessed' Because of Popular Move to Stop Overseas Abortion Funding

On Tuesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced new efforts to prevent American overseas funding from supporting abortion. While the Trump administration had already implemented what is called the “Mexico City Policy,” this recent change makes that existing policy more effective. Democrats have slammed the Trump administration as “abortion-obsessed,” but this policy is extremely popular, as are restrictions to late-term abortion.

“Your administration is abortion-obsessed,” Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) told Pompeo in a hearing on Wednesday. “You’re so obsessed with it that the side-effects are devastating the health and are going to continue to devastate the health of women around the world.”

Many Democrats have indeed seized on abortion as a vital “women’s health” issue, even though the vast majority of abortions are elective and have nothing to do with threats to a woman’s health.

As for the Mexico City Policy, it merely involves cutting American funding to organizations that promote abortion overseas. The new expansion cuts funding to organizations that provide funding to such groups.

“We will refuse to provide assistance to groups who provide funding to other groups” that promote abortion, Pompeo said in an announcement at the State Department. “American taxpayer dollars will not be used to underwrite abortions,” he added. “This is decent; this is right.”

In 2017, when President Trump reinstated the Mexico City Policy, a Knights of Columbus (KOC)/Marist poll found that a whopping 83 percent of Americans supported it.

This past January, another KOC/Marist poll found that 75 percent of Americans said they “opposed” or “strongly opposed” “using tax dollars to pay for abortion in other countries,” while only 19 percent “supported” or “strongly supported” it. Another 6 percent said they were unsure.

Democrats have embraced increasingly radical positions on abortion, with New York’s extremely radical abortion bill removing protections for wanted babies and Virginia’s (stalled) bill making abortion legal up until the beginning of labor. Gov. Ralph Northam (D-Va.) started a nationwide debate on infanticide by endorsing the killing of unwanted babies who survive a botched abortion. More Americans — and even more Democrats — have started identifying as “pro-life” rather than “pro-choice,” after the radical abortion push.

“The Knights of Columbus applauds the measures by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to strengthen the Mexico City policy and to better enforce the Siljander Amendment, steps that are needed to prevent backdoor funding of abortions,” KOC Supreme Knight Carl Anderson said in a statement. “We steadfastly oppose sending U.S. tax dollars to NGOs or any organizations that support ending lives through abortion.”

Pompeo, Trump, and Carl Anderson are more in line with the American people than Democrats like Lois Frankel. Recent months have shown that Democrats are not just obsessed with abortion — they’re obsessed with abortion radicalism. And Americans are waking up…
