Americans have voted for their favorite 2020 Oscars host, and President Donald Trump defeated all other 2020 presidential candidates. In a new PJ Media poll, Americans chose Trump for the best leading host, and they picked Trump and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) as leading co-hosts.
Given the past anxiety over would-be Oscar hosts like Kevin Hart, this result seems particularly ironic. The public seems to be saying that having Trump as host or Trump and Sanders as co-hosts is the winning ticket.
Perhaps people are more interested in having entertaining politicians host than having entertainers that whine on about politics.
In the poll, PJ Media asked respondents, “What 2020 candidate would you like to see host the 2020 Oscars?” Based on a survey of 1,000 respondents, the results were tabulated Tuesday.
Twenty-six percent of Americans would choose Donald Trump, while 23 percent would choose Sanders, the survey found. Starbucks CEO and potential independent candidate Howard Schultz came in third, with 10 percent.
Most Democratic 2020 candidates fell far behind. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) took fourth with 8 percent. Then came Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Andrew Yang, an entrepreneur and author from New York, who tied at 5 percent. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) had a mere 4 percent. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) tied with California lecturer Marianne Williamson and former Gov. Bill Weld (R-Mass.), who is considering challenging Trump for the GOP nomination. Those three took 3 percent.
Vanishing slivers of Americans said they want to see former Obama HUD Secretary Julian Castro (2 percent), Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) (2 percent), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) (2 percent), Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-South Bend, Ind.) (1 percent) and former Rep. John Delaney (D-Md.) (1 percent) on the Oscars stage.

Democrats: Trump Gets 7 Percent of Dems and Ties in Fourth Place
Surprisingly, even Democrats chose Trump over most of their own candidates. Bernie Sanders took first among Democrats, with 32 percent. Behind him came Kamala Harris (14 percent) and Cory Booker (11 percent).
Trump tied with Andrew Yang and Elizabeth Warren for fourth place, however, with 7 percent of Democrats choosing him for Oscars host.
Trump beat Gillibrand, Williamson, Castro, Gabbard, Klobuchar, Buttigieg, and Delaney — among Democrats. Naturally, the Republican Weld and independent Schultz garnered little enthusiasm.

Independents like Trump, Sanders, and Schultz
Independents, like Americans in general, preferred Trump (25 percent), Bernie Sanders (23 percent), and Howard Schultz (18 percent).
Interestingly, Andrew Yang took fourth place among independents, with Kamala Harris and Marianne Williamson close behind. Not one independent chose Buttigieg to host the Oscars, but the South Bend mayor has notoriously low name recognition.

Republicans: Sanders and Schultz each get 10 percent
Least surprising, Trump dominated as the number one choice for Republicans, taking 55 percent. Bernie Sanders and Howard Schultz tied for second with 10 percent. The only other Republican on the list, Bill Weld, took third with 6 percent. No other candidate could garner 4 percent support among Republicans.

In the poll, PJ Media conducted 1,000 online interviews. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points. Party affiliation data was weighted to match national norms per recent polling from Gallup. The sample is not nationally representative.
