On Monday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) attacked the very idea of a system that “allows billionaires to exist” as immoral. Fox Business host Stuart Varney responded Tuesday morning with an excellent explanation that socialism is not moral.
“The system that allows billionaires to exist when there are parts of Alabama where people are still getting ringworm because they don’t have access to public health is wrong,” Ocasio-Cortez declared. “It not only doesn’t make economic sense, but it doesn’t make moral sense.”
Stuart Varney shot back by declaring, “It is not moral to seize someone’s private wealth. It’s not. That’s not the American way.”
Besides not being the American way, socialism also does not work.
“They’ve not learned the lessons of history,” Varney argued. “Socialism does not work and I’m here to tell you it does not work. I’m a refugee from that nonsense.” The “Varney & Company” host moved from Britain to the U.S.
“Socialism is based on jealousy and kind of class envy: You’ve got it. We don’t. I want it. Give it to me. I’m going to take it now. That is socialism,” he explained. “It absolutely does not work and there is nothing moral about that.”
The entire economy would struggle under Ocasio-Cortez’s plans. Her Green New Deal would cost approximately $49.109 trillion in the first ten years, according to a PJ Media study. Yet the sticker price barely covers what would happen.
“Let me ask you this, if we’d have taken all the money off the billionaires — the government had taken it for itself, stripped them of that wealth and got it for themselves for the government — would we have a dynamic full employment economy? No, we would not,” Varney said.
“Would we have a technology sector that rules the world, that’s really making America a high-tech place to do business? No, we would not,” he added. “We would have the socialism that has failed in Europe, that’s failed in Venezuela for heaven’s sake, and failed just about everywhere in the world — and it would not be moral.”
Varney also wondered where Ocasio-Cortez’s obsession with ringworm came from. “We all have access to public health. Where did this ringworm thing come in? I just don’t get it,” he said.
I myself have gotten ringworm, and it had nothing to do with having or lacking access to health care. When I got ringworm, I was able to see a doctor, get a prescription, and heal. Ringworm is very annoying, but having health care would not have prevented it — I’m pretty sure I got it at the gym.
Sadly, a recent poll found that 74 percent of Democrats said that if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez were eligible for president, they would consider her. She may be a “kingmaker” for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination — and she doesn’t think the economy should allow billionaires to exist.
