Gosnell Authors Announce Movie Set to Release in Fall 2017

Married authors Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer announced that a movie version of their bestselling book, Gosnell: The Untold Story of America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer, is likely to be released in theaters in the fall of this year. Their book focuses on the notorious abortionist who was sentenced to life in prison in 2013 for first degree murder of three babies born alive.

“We’re hoping — we’re very much hoping — it will be in theaters in the Fall of 2017,” McElhinney told PJ Media in a Facebook Live interview. The movie has already been produced, but it needs a distributor. McElhinney encouraged people to visit www.gosnellmovie.com to donate to help the message get out there. “So far, 29,000 people have contributed 2.3 million to get the movie out.”

The authors know what they’re doing — they have written and produced numerous political documentaries: FrackNation (2014), Not Evil Just Wrong: The True Cause of Global Warming Hysteria (2009), and Mine Your Own Business: The Dark Side of Environmentalism (2006).

Even before the recent book was written, mainstream media outlets ignored the story of Kermit Gosnell and his abortion “House of Horrors.” McAleer told PJ Media why he chose to focus on the story in the first place — it was “horrific,” and in the courtroom the press benches were empty.

“The story, we can’t believe we’re the only ones writing about it, it’s an amazing story,” McAleer said. But he blamed the mainstream media for “still trying to suppress” the story, noting that even though the book hit number 3 on the Amazon bestseller list, “no mainstream media have covered this book.”

Shortly after the book released in January, it sold out from three major distributors. “It sold out on Books-A-Million and Barnes & Noble and on Amazon, within the first 72 hours of the book coming out,” McElhinney reported. “And no mainstream media coverage. The New York Times tried to keep us off the bestseller list.” Regnery Publishing claimed in February that the book should have ranked number four on the nonfiction list, but it did not even appear there.

McAleer and McElhinney remained hopeful their film will hit theaters this year, despite setbacks. But in addition to requesting funds for distribution, the authors encouraged people to read the book in public, “like at the bus stop, or when they’re on the train or at a restaurant.” They encouraged people to have someone snap a photo while they’re reading it. “We’re making a wall of it on our Facebook page.”

McAleer also shared an interesting tidbit: Kermit Gosnell calls and writes to the authors from prison. McElhinney said the abortionist used to call her until she told him “I was done, but I gave him Phelim’s number.” He responded, “That’s what husbands are for.”

The imprisoned abortionist recently wrote a letter to the Men in Black (1997) actor Will Smith, asking for help because he delivered the actor. “This is the kind of crazy world [Gosnell] lives in,” McAleer explained. “He’s convicted of mass murdering of children, and he jokes in the letter, ‘Hey Will, you know what, there would be no Men in Black if I’d have dropped you on your head.'”

As an enticement to buy the book, the co-author added that he included two letters from Gosnell in the end: a disturbing poem from the abortionist, and one with Bible passages that justify what he did.
