Actress Meryl Streep used her Golden Globe award speech to venture out of the movie business and into political commentary, attacking President-elect Donald Trump Sunday night. Monday morning, Trump shot back his response on Twitter, branding Streep a “Hillary flunky who lost big.”
“Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes,” Trump declared, in the first of three quick-fire tweets responding to the actress. “She is a…. Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never ‘mocked’ a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him….. ‘groveling’ when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!”

While liberals seized upon Trump’s alleged mocking of a disabled reporter, the president-elect’s defenders argued that the connection was tenuous at best.
Trump says he was not mocking a disabled reporter, and liberals need not resort to this story to point out the president-elect’s moral failings — his trail of broken marriages and the “Access Hollywood” tapes are more serious character defects. If indeed his plan was to mock the disabled, there would be many more videos proving this.
Nevertheless, Streep brought up this tired issue in her Golden Globes speech. “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it and I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie — it was real life,” Streep declared. “Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence.”
Even if Trump was mocking the disabled reporter, he was not committing any “violence” in that act. Streep’s mention of violence is strange, given reports that Democratic National Committee staffers plotted to incite violence at Trump rallies. Also, many of the post-election “hate crimes” have been proven to be hoaxes.
