Trump's Biggest Gaffe Yet? Remember the 7-Eleven Attacks

On Monday night, during a passionate defense of the “New York values” of those who suffered in the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump seemed to get a little confused. He praised the New Yorkers “down on 7-11,” who demonstrated bravery in the midst of a terror attack.

Just to be clear, the worst terror attack on American soil did not happen at a 7-Eleven, nor on July 11, nor at the intersection of 7th and 11th streets, but Trump said it did, and Twitter mocked him mercilessly for it.

I was down there, and I watched our police and our firemen, down on 7-11, down at the World Trade Center, right after it came down. I saw the greatest people I’ve ever seen in action, saw the bravest people I’ve ever seen — including the construction workers, including every person down there. … I’d like to talk about the New York values that we all know so well. The values that make us love this state despite its problems.

In all fairness to The Donald, it’s a great point. His defense of those “New York values” is an absolute victory over Cruz’s attack, which tied that phrase to the liberal values which have arguably weakened the state. Trump did not deny that liberalism has held his state back, but he did champion the working men and women who showed their bravery on September 11.

Twitter was less than forgiving, however. Also, to be fair to the mockers, Trump did not even try to correct himself.
