Rep. Lewis: Trump Not a 'Legitimate President'

The Democrats’ delusional thinking about why Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump has infected the entire party as at least seven Democratic members of Congress will boycott Trump’s inauguration.

One of those members is civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis. Lewis told Meet the Press that he does not believe Donald Trump is a “legitimate president.” He cites the supposed Russian hack of the DNC, calling it “interference” in the election and saying that the “Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.”

Any casual observer of the election knows full well that Hillary Clinton didn’t need any help in her self-destruction and that even if the Russians were responsible for hacking the DNC, the idea that it impacted the election outcome is absurd.

Meanwhile, Trump didn’t take Lewis’s insults lying down.

NBC News:

Trump fired back at Lewis questioning his legitimacy as the incoming president in a pair of tweets Saturday morning, saying that the long-serving Georgia Congressman should “spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results.”

Lewis, also a recognized civil rights leader, represents a district that covers most of metropolitan Atlanta as well as historically black schools, including Morehouse College and Spelman College.

Lewis told NBC News that he does not plan on attending President-elect Trump’s swearing-in next Friday.

“It will be the first one that I miss since I’ve been in Congress,” he said. “You cannot be at home with something that you feel that is wrong, is not right.”

What does Lewis think he’s accomplishing by throwing this tantrum? With zero evidence to back up his claim that Hillary Clinton lost because of the release of emails that reflected badly on her, all he’s left with is the fantasy that Donald Trump should have lost because Hillary Clinton was a better candidate and her ideas would have won out.

By any measure you want to use, Hillary Clinton was the worst Democratic presidential candidate in modern history. Her negatives were through the roof. Her ideas were rejected by a majority of Americans. She was disliked by the electorate at historic levels. No one trusted her. And a majority of voters said she was a liar.

So she lost because of a supposed Russian hack? Talk about denial…Sheesh.

Until Democrats like Lewis come to grips with the real reasons for their historic defeat up and down the ballot, they will continue to suffer electoral embarrassments like the one they experienced last November.
