A captured ISIS jihadist has, Fars News reports, admitted to interrogators that the terrorist group plans to carry out an attack against Incirlik Air Base in Turkey. That’s significant, not only because Incirlik is one of the most important airbases for the Turkish air force, but because it’s also used by NATO. It even has a U.S. Air Force complement of 1,500 airmen.
That’s right, 1,500 U.S. Air Force personnel are currently stationed at the base.
The terrorist named Abu Osama had been graduated from Mosul university and joined the ISIL after the city was occupied by the terrorist group.
He disclosed that the ISIL had entrusted him with traveling to Turkey as a secular and ordinary person to prepare the plan for attacking Incirlik using his special expertise. But Abu Osama was arrested in Turkey’s Ataturk airport 6 months later and was transferred to Baghdad.
NATO (which basically means the a lot of Americans and some personnel from other NATO countries) uses Incirlik to carry out airstrikes against ISIS. That’s obviously one of the main reasons why ISIS wants to attack the air base.
It goes to show that Turkey has a very serious ISIS problem on its hands. After all, to even contemplate such an attack means that ISIS has a boat load of jihadists in Turkey willing and ready to strike whenever their self-declared leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi tells them to.
