Clinton Says She Was 'Short-Circuited' to Explain Email Lie

Hillary Clinton explained on Friday that she may have “short circuited” when she gave a disprovable answer to Fox News’ Chris Wallace on Sunday about her public email statements.

“Director Comey said my answers were truthful,” Clinton said Sunday, after Wallace played a clip of Clinton making false public statements. She added, “And what I’ve said is consistent with what I have told the American people.” Anyone who watched Comey’s press conference last month knows that at least one of these statements is false.

Clinton doubled down on that answer on Wednesday, telling a reporter from KUSA in Denver that “as the FBI said, everything that I’ve said publicly has been consistent and truthful with what I’ve told them.”

Comey of course has taken no position on the statements Hillary has made publicly. He would only speak to the answers she gave during her FBI interview. Comey told Congress on July 7: “We have no basis to conclude she lied to the FBI.”

At the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists conference today, Clinton basically tripled down on her email lies.

MSNBC’s Kristen Welker asked Clinton the $64,000 question: “Are you mischaracterizing Director Comey’s testimony and is this not undercutting your efforts to rebuild trust with the American people?” Hillary responded with the sort of lawyerly doublespeak the Clintons are known for.

“Well, Kristin, I appreciate your asking that because I was pointing out in both of those instances, that the director, Comey, had said that my answers in my FBI interview were truthful,” Clinton said. “That’s really the bottom line here.”

“And I have said during the interview and many other occasions over the past months, that what I told the FBI, which he said was truthful, is consistent with what I have said publicly. So I may have short-circuited it and for that, I — you know — will try to clarify because I think — you know — Chris Wallace and I were probably talking past each other because of course, he could only talk to what I had told the FBI and I appreciated that.”

“Now I have acknowledged repeatedly that using two email accounts was a mistake. And I take responsibility for that,” Clinton said. “But I do think — you know — having him say that my answers to the FBI were truthful and then I should quickly add, what I said was consistent with what I had said publicly and that’s really sort of in my view trying to tie both ends together.”

Disregard the discussion about the classified markings — it’s a red herring. As secretary of State she was supposed to be able to recognize classified material whether it’s marked classified or not.

Hillary is telling the American people they’ll just have to take her word for it. Her public statements “were consistent” with what she told the FBI in a private interview — even though we will never know what she said in that interview — and by the way, Comey refuted nearly all of her public statements during his press conference last month. Interesting spin — but ridiculous nonetheless.
