At this point, it’s no wonder why Republican front-runner Donald Trump chose to back out of Monday’s Fox News presidential debate. The event has since been cancelled after Ted Cruz stated he would not attend unless Trump was there. There’s nothing for Trump to gain by debating Cruz, and everything to lose.
The Cruz camp hopes to make Trump pay for his withdrawal by portraying it as cowardly. From CNN:
“Let’s be intellectually honest about what’s going on here — Donald Trump is scared to debate Ted Cruz next week,” Cruz spokesman Ron Nehring said in a statement. “Perhaps Mr. Trump is unable to speak for more than one minute about any given topic because of his shallow understanding of basic policies, or perhaps he is scared of voters learning the truth — that he has spent his entire adult life promoting liberal positions completely opposite of the conservative platform that he has campaigned on.”
Cruz plans to troll Trump at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee on Monday, where Trump will be speaking during the time the debate had been scheduled to take place.
