Ted Cruz's Unforced 'New York Values' Error

The more I think about it, the more I am surprised that a man of Ted to Cruz’s intelligence and sophistication would stoop to a crude insult like this:

Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro-gay marriage, focus around money and the media.

This brings to mind Alvy Singer’s famous line in Woody Allen’s Annie Hall:

Don’t you see the rest of the country looks upon New York like we’re left-wing, communist, Jewish, homosexual pornographers? I think of us that way sometimes and I live here.

Why needlessly insult eight million people? Cruz will pick up not a single vote, whereas Trump is likely to prove strong in the outer boroughs and upstate — why not fight for every vote and make the Democrats defend a stronghold?

‘Tis a puzzlement.
