Discussion on Whether Sexbots Can Be Transgender Is the Apocalypse

In his book, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, author Douglas Adams wrote: “In the beginning, the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.”

At this point, I’m nodding in agreement because I give up. It’s time to hit the reset button on the universe because society is actually having discussions over whether a sexbot can be transgender or not.

You see, a company is planning a line of what it describes as transgender sexbots. “We do believe there is a market not only for transgender, but for any other sexual preferences of gender,” said Guile Lindroth, the honcho for AI at sexbot company Realbotix.

However, Christine Burns, a trans rights activist, argues that these supposedly transgender sexbots reinforce the supposedly damaging idea of “she males,” and that they have “no resemblance to everyday trans people.”

So yes, this is happening. Isn’t 2018 grand?

Now, I’m inclined to argue that transgender sexbots can’t be a thing because transgender exists in one’s head and not in one’s unalterable chromosomes. Maybe the look of these bots appeal to some people, and that’s fine. I’m a fan of the free market.

Yet this discussion is so trivial and distant from the actual definition of “offensive” that I can’t handle that humans are actually worked up about it. We’re not only talking about a machine having a gender, we’re talking about what the guidelines are for a machine to change its gender without hurting a human’s feelings.

This is what the 21st century is. It’s not the era of engineering marvels we all thought it would be, but the era of people getting their undies in a bunch over the proper design of a masturbation device.

I’m not sure how we recover from that.
