Organizing for Action! has ripped off the Gadsden Flag to troll the Tea Party. Tea Partiers hate Obamacare, they love liberty, they respect history, they fly the Gadsden Flag, so OFA decided, “Hey, let’s annoy the Tea Party and get in their faces!” That’s what this president and his minions do — take things that don’t belong to them. They go out of their way to provoke people.
That thing is stupid in too many ways to count.
To start with, the majority of Americans didn’t and don’t want Obamacare. Their rights were trodden on when the Democrats and BarackObama.com decided to force Obamacare on them anyway. Obamacare creates an entitlement for some Americans, in the form of subsidized healthcare, at the expense of some other Americans, who are paying for all this involuntarily. Who is really being trodden on?
Until Obamacare, the thought that Congress and a president would conspire to pass a law that the majority clearly did not want, and then smear those who stepped up to oppose that law, would have been considered un-American. That’s just not how we do things here. Well, it wasn’t but as of 2010 it is. The same people who made that flag would scream and cry if the Republicans passed a law they didn’t want, even if the majority supported it. They’re whiners. They’re takers. If they had an actual flag that represents who they are, it wouldn’t have a rattlesnake on it. It would look like this.
President Obama has re-written that heinous, unpopular law about 34 times. He does not have the power to re-write existing law under the Constitution. That would also have been considered un-American before this president and that law. The same people who support Obama’s actions would throw temper tantrums if anyone other than BarackObama.com was doing it. They don’t care about the Constitution any more than they care about history. They just want free stuff, and they worship the man who is taking from others to give to them.
The stethoscope on that flag replaces the rattlesnake on the actual Gadsden Flag. Problem: Stethoscopes aren’t dangerous. When they’re cold they’re annoying, and I suppose you could use one to strangle someone, but they’re not threatening objects. Stethoscopes are passive instruments used to hear active hearts and lungs.
Rattlesnakes, on the other hand, are alive and they are dangerous when provoked. That’s why there’s one on the actual Gadsden Flag.
I wouldn’t expect anyone who had a hand in designing OFA’s abominable version of the Obamacare flag to know about or care about the real Gadsden Flag. They’re thieves who steal power and steal history. They made their version out of spite.
The flag’s real history is very American, military, anti imperial government, and very much against the grain of Obamacare and this presidency. The Gadsden is about independence. Obamacare is about dependence. Gadsden is about freedom. Obamacare is about mandates. The American Revolution was a tax revolt. Obamacare is a tax.
“An American Guesser” — aka Benjamin Franklin — explained the significance of the rattlesnake on the flag in December 1775.
“She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. … she never wounds ’till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her.”
Obamacare, on the other hand, is an attack levied by government against a majority of Americans, against individual choice, against businesses and families, against the freedom of religion.
In more recent times, the Gadsden Flag flies on whichever ship in the US Navy fleet has the distinction of being the oldest ship in the fleet. When that ship goes out of active service, it transfers the Gadsden to whichever ship is then judged to be the oldest. Back in the 1990s, I witnessed the ceremony in which then then oldest ship, USS Independence, officially became the oldest and raised the Gadsden Flag. It’s about tradition. It’s about America’s military being primarily a force constituted for the defense of liberty. Obamacare is not about that at all. This president hates the idea that some people disagree with him and would use their liberty to oppose him. He hates that.
Like I said, the Obamacare flag’s designer probably doesn’t know about any of this and doesn’t care. They killed the rattlesnake and replaced it with a scrawny, stupid stethoscope and misappropriated the “Don’t Tread” language just to be jerks to the Tea Party. In a serious way, we’re ruled by an ignoramus who leads his army of un-American twerps. Stealing history to tread on our freedom just comes naturally to them.
