Last week, Spokane police arrested another 16 year old in connection with the brutal killing. Both will be charged with 1st degree robbery and 1st degree murder.

Benton served in World War II and was wounded in the Battle of Okinawa. His killing during the course of an apparent robbery became a national story in the wake of the Oklahoma murder of Chris Lane. Actor James Woods was among the first to draw national attention to Benton’s murder.

No firearms were used in the murder. The two teens apparently beat the veteran to death with flashlights.
