If you own a gun store and/or hold a Federal Firearms License (FFL), or if you know somebody who does, the following information is vitally important.
The ATF has announced that they are sending demand letters that all FFLs in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas must report anybody who purchases two or more rifles with detachable-magazine rifles and larger than .22 caliber. Non-compliance can trigger the license revocation process. More information on this new regulation can be found at the NRA-ILA.
The National Rifle Association plans to challenge the new reporting requirements. Their Institute of Legislative Action requests that FFLs contact their Office of Legislative Council after receiving this letter. You can call the office at 703-267-1161; fax: 703-267-1164; email [email protected]. They request you to include your name, contact information, and if possible a copy of the demand letter.
This new regulation increases operating expenses, creates a new excuse to register long gun buyers, and opens the door to more extensive gun registration schemes.
