In the perpetual spin cycle called Washington, DC, the Libyan war mission is to “stop genocide.” Moreover, a White House aides says: “President Obama’s two-year campaign to promote human rights helped trigger the uprising in Libya”.
Where was this high-sounding rhetoric on Iraq, where Saddam used chemical weapons to slaughter Kurds?
During his 2008 campaign, Obama claimed he “opposed the [Iraq] war from the start.”
Why the sudden transformation?
Nothing profound. Simply put: Money.
During the 2008 election cycle, Obama was the top recipient of Defense Industry campaign contributions, and second overall in oil & gas contributions. The graph below shows how Obama’s candidacy was a windfall for Democrats, who received over 50% of all Defense contributions in the last two elections. (Click to enlarge.)
