If you want a good education for your kids, move to Finland...

… or Singapore. You won’t get in the USA unless you send your children to private school or home school them yourself. As we all know by now, public education in this country is in horrible shape. Despite spending more money per student than almost anybody, we are buried in the middle of the pack of developed countries in reading and science and doing even worse in math.

Why is that? According to a new study, it is, to put in baldly, because our teachers stink. From the Christian Science Monitor: “For starters, the United States needs to increase its pool of quality teachers. Almost half of its K-12 teachers come from the bottom third of college classes. Classroom leaders such as Singapore, South Korea, and Finland select from the top ranks. In Finland, only 1 in 10 applicants is accepted into teacher training.”
