Kruiser's (Almost) Daily Distraction: Political Awareness Without Social Media Indulgence

Paying attention to politics for a living can take one down some dark paths. Paths so dark that whatever light you brought with you can seem to cease to exist.

I make a conscious effort to be aware of what is going on in without subjecting myself to the ugliness for any great period of time. I like being a man of a certain age who isn't on any prescribed heart or blood pressure medication; or any prescribed medication at all, actually.

Yes, this is an extension of a conversation I've been having via columns, videos, podcasts, and even a book, for quite a while now. My good friend and partner in thought crime Stephen Green and I were discussing it again on Monday's episode of "Five O'Clock Somewhere."

Stephen the Younger — who is quite familiar with most of my work habits after 15 years — casually wondered if I had checked out the leftist digital insane asylum known as Bluesky in recent days. I informed him and our esteemed VIP Gold family that I never, ever check out Bluesky for anything. A lot of conservatives do, I know. It's sort of a "keep your enemies closer" kind of thing. That just sounds like a nightmare to me, though.

I am well aware of just how awful the Left is now. They've been heading in a hateful direction ever since His High Holiness the Lightbringer Barack Obama was sworn into office in 2009. "Hope and Change" was shorthand for "We hope we can get rid of all the people who disagree with us so that we can change the United States into a one-party commie nation."

What I have no use for whatsoever are repeated, detailed examples of the hatefulness. I had food poisoning just once. It happened a half of a century ago and I don't need to get it again to know that I don't want it. Again, I'm AWARE

I'm going to write something now that isn't going to win me any friends, but one of the perks of age and perspective is the habit of making offensive proclamations. I've also said this to several people in the last few days. I have never personally met anyone who is a good enough person to repeatedly subject themselves to the kind of hatred we're seeing now without then becoming at least a little be hateful.

I can be curmudgeonly about a lot of issues, it's true; I don't have any interest in being hateful, however. Hate is a moral and emotional cancer.

It's also the Left's calling card. I don't want to be like them.

I'm really digging the no prescription drugs thing too.
