Justice may yet be partially served:

According to entertainment industry site The Wrap, the City of Chicago filed papers in Cook County Circuit Court on Thursday claiming “that more than $130,000 in overtime costs were incurred as a result of the investigation.”

The city’s attorneys explain in the filing that while “investigating Defendant’s false statements and false police report, the City incurred significant costs in order to provide services reasonably related to Defendant’s conduct.”

Smollett maintains his innocence and was bolstered by having the myriad felony charges against him mysteriously dropped. There is, however, a load of controversy surrounding that, as the Cook County State’s Attorney who dropped them was in contact with Smollett’s family and a former chief of staff to Michelle Obama.

Whether Smollett will eventually have to pay in some way for perpetrating a hoax that could have landed someone innocent person in jail or sparked a race riot remains to be seen. This is all taking place in Cook County, after all.

The regular rules of justice aren’t always applicable there.
