Kim Kardashian is “on the fence” about the presidential election and thinking about changing her vote to Donald Trump.
According to comments surfaced by The Huffington Post, the reality-TV star told Wonderland Magazine that she’s reconsidering her support for Hillary Clinton in the November election, thanks to a conversation she had with stepparent Caitlyn Jenner, the transgender Olympic athlete formerly known as Bruce. Jenner is a Republican.
“At first I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m so Hillary [Clinton],’ but I had a long political call with Caitlyn last night about why she’s voting Trump. I’m on the fence,” Kardashian said, according to HuffPost.
Just over a year ago, Kardashian seemed to endorse Clinton, then not yet the Democratic Party’s nominee, on Instagram, posting a selfie with the former secretary of state. Kardashian’s husband, recording artist Kanye West, peered from behind them in the photo.
“I got my selfie!!!” an apparently jubilant Kardashian wrote in the post. “I really loved hearing her speak & hearing her goals for our country! #HillaryForPresident.”
While many I know have taken to lamenting almost everything that happens in the 2016 election three-ring circus, I’ve resignedly begun to adopt a “Why not enjoy the lunacy?” approach.
When the Olympic hero Hollywood transgender sensation who also happens to be a staunch Republican starts potentially swaying other celebrity votes, it is just time to get on board with the madness — or, at the very least, start to ponder whether we’re all just digital avatars in some big sim game that’s being played. I know I said I was sort of doing the former, but the latter has been getting almost equal time, to be honest.
This does illustrate a larger point, however. Often, if we can all get past inflammatory rhetoric, a mind or two can be changed. Many liberals, especially on the coasts, are liberals only because they always have been or they think it’s cool. If you actually engage them in a conversation about freedom, taxes and the like, they often begin to realize that they aren’t quite as far to the left as they originally thought.
Give it a try. You don’t even need to undergo a sex change to make it work.
