Nancy Pelosi appears to have been deeply unhappy she and other Democratic House members weren’t informed in advance of the action to eliminate Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Saturday night.
However, on a “need to know basis” Nancy had no need to know whatsoever, nor did Chuck Schumer or the meretricious House Intelligence chair Adam Schiff. Indeed, given the way these people and their colleagues leak and have leaked, in and out of the media, Trump would have been not only insane but guilty of gross negligence to have warned these hyper-partisans of an action in which many of our nation’s finest could easily have been blown to smithereens.
Not only that, in what universe would any person, let alone a president of the United State, under the most outrageous and fallacious continuous attacks by these same people for nearly three years, endless obviously unfounded and seditious accusations of Russia collusion augmented by an impeachment campaign based on absolutely nothing but out-of-control envy and manufactured outrage, want to cooperate with or trust such creepy individuals?
Most likely Pelosi’s real concern was maintaining her position as Speaker of the House in 2020, which now seems under threat.
As do the Democratic presidential candidates. Al-Baghdadi’s end may spell theirs as well. It will be hard for the public to envision any of them as a plausible commander-in-chief. But let’s examine the frontrunners and consider how they might have behaved when confronted by a decision like what to do about Baghdadi.
That’s easy regarding Joe Biden because, as Politico reported years back, we have prior evidence:
Intelligence experts believed they had located bin Laden in a Pakistan compound, but they weren’t certain, and the risks of failure were high. After most officials present urged Obama to go for it, the president turned to Biden: “Joe, what do you think?” he asked, according to an account Biden gave months later.
“Mr. President, my suggestion is don’t go,” Biden said.
Obama, of course, ignored his deputy’s advice and dispatched Navy SEAL Team 6 to kill the Al Qaeda leader.
So Biden is not only corrupt and, to put it gently, intellectually-challenged, he’s also a coward.
But what of Bernie and Liz? Would either of them have acted against Baghdadi? Not likely. He’s a Third-World leader, after all. Who knows if they would even oppose ISIS, at least in any serious way? That would be Islamophobic, not to mention imperialistic. What would Ilhan Omar, one of Bernie’s great supporters, say? “Some people beheaded some people”? “Some people raped some people… and then beheaded them”?
Can you imagine Bernie or Liz highlighting, as Trump did in his speech, the story of Kayla Mueller, the American woman forcibly married by Baghdadi who then raped and killed her?
I tend to doubt it. Today’s Democrats rarely discuss such things. Ruthless, homicidal maniacs who are governed by Sharia law don’t fit their narrative. Their preferred narrative is that Trump is racist and xenophobe who hates Muslims.
Unfortunately for them, and the rest of the Dems, actions still speak louder than words. In this case, Ilhan was right. Something did happen — and a lot of lives will be saved this time, mostly Muslim. Also, the president of the United States is well on his way to a second term. Some people will be very upset.
