The whole concept of multiculturalism and diversity, as well as the left’s favorite mantra, “Diversity Is Our Strength,” took a massive hit last Sunday in Australia, when two Islamic jihadis at Sydney’s Bondi Beach murdered fifteen Jews who were in the midst of Hanukkah celebrations, and injured forty others.
Whatever else this attack was, and it was many things, it was a massive rebuke to the whole idea that people of at least some cultures could live in peace and harmony with people of other cultures. When one of those cultures sanctifies violence under certain circumstances, and considers members of the other group to be its worst enemies (cf. Qur’an 5:82), and even dehumanizes them by saying that the supreme and only God transformed them into apes and pigs for their disobedience (Qur’an 2:63-6; 5:59-60; 7:166), it’s extremely unlikely that these two groups are going to settle down onto a bumper sticker and coexist, and on Bondi Beach, they didn’t.
As anyone could have predicted, the jihadis attacked the Jews, and thereby, according to a statement attributed to Muhammad, hastened the coming of the end times and the consummation of all things: “The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.” (Sahih Muslim 2922)
That this would happen eventually was inevitable, albeit universally ignored. And in the wake of it, leftist pushers of diversity have decided to double down. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said fancifully that “when people come to Australia, you leave old divisions and hatreds at the door. At the door,” he said, as if repeating it with a stern expression would prevent future jihad attacks. “When you come to Australia,” Albanese continued, “you are here to support our society, which is diverse, but that diversity is a strength.”
Apparently, that was not enough, for now a gaggle of Australian celebrities and media talking heads have gotten together just to make sure that the Bondi Beach jihad massacre doesn’t give anyone the big idea that he can stray off the reservation.

Celebrities & Media Personalities get put on display - to tell Australians that Diversity is their greatest strength and it’s time to stand up to hate. pic.twitter.com/z5sdLfSowk
Looking stern and speaking singly or in small groups of somber-visaged moral scolds, while a meditative piano tinkles a trifle too loudly, so as to make sure that you know that this message would be serious, the Australian big shots give us the word from our moral superiors:
Enough. No more division. No more hate. [That one sounds like “No more height” in these folks’ Aussie brogue, and I thought for a mad moment that the time for us short people had finally come.] No more racism. No more antisemitism. No more Islamophobia. This country is built on diversity. On fairness. On respect. Everyone is equal. Everyone deserves to feel safe. Hate is where it starts; here is where it stops. It’s time to stand up to hate.
One noteworthy omission from the “No more” section of this heartfelt exhortation was “No more Islamic jihad.” The assembled celebrities likely didn’t even consider including such a statement, because to have done so would have been “Islamophobic,” and one can’t have the things we are supposed to be rejecting cancel each other out, now, can we?

The problem is that they still do. Islam’s core texts, the Qur’an and Hadith, are profoundly antisemitic, but of course none of the people who appear in this video know that, and few would have cared if they did. After all, there are leftist Christians and Jews who pay scant attention to the actual teachings of their religions, exchanging them for the dogmas of contemporary leftism, and many leftists fondly assume that there are multitudes of Muslims who do exactly the same thing. In reality, however, a literal understanding of the texts that are considered sacred is mainstream in Islam, and given those texts’ hatred and contempt for Jews and Christians, and frequent calls for violence, that is a matter of concern. A tolerant society can never survive the existence of a radically intolerant group.
As far as these Aussie celebrities are concerned, however, this is no time to reconsider their basic assumptions. This is time to double down. Maybe strict “hate speech” laws will do the trick, eh? They’ll almost certainly be tried, and notably not enforced within one select community.
