It was one of the most exciting moments of the generally mind-numbingly boring Jan. 6 Stalinist show trials. Back in June 2022, a surprise witness, Cassidy Hutchinson, who had been an aide to Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows, made a bombshell revelation. She claimed that while riding in the presidential vehicle known as The Beast on that fateful date which will live in infamy, Jan. 6, 2021, Evil Incarnate — that is, President Donald Trump — tried to grab the steering wheel and head to the Capitol, where he hoped, presumably, to join the “insurrection” that the left keeps insisting was happening. It was the coolest of cool stories, bro, but now, nearly two years later, it has been shown up for what it is: clumsy leftist propaganda fiction.
A House report released Monday states, “The driver testified that he specifically refuted the version of events as recounted by Hutchinson. The driver of the SUV testified that he ‘did not see him reach [redacted]. [President Trump] never grabbed the steering wheel. I didn’t see him, you know, lunge to try to get into the front seat at all.’”
Upon the report’s release, Trump took a victory lap, saying: “Well, the story was false and so ridiculous that I would grab these young, strong guys. I don't even know if you'd be able to do it, because they have a lot of things in between the driver and the back, you know, like steel, then various other things. And I would imagine it would be very hard to do. But the whole concept of me doing it, these were made up fabricated stories. And they got tremendous play."
Trump acknowledged that he had wanted to go to the Capitol that day, albeit not to lead any “insurrection,” and he didn’t try to grab the wheel: “I said, I think, let’s go down to the Capitol. And the Secret Service was very nice and said, ‘Sir, really better for you to go back to the White House. It really is, you know, we're not prepared to go down there.’ And I understood that and it was no big argument.”
Back when Hutchinson first made her claims, however, CNN wanted us to know that the walls were closing in. “This is a bombshell,” sputtered someone whom the alleged news network described as “one Trump adviser.” The “adviser” continued, “It’s stunning. It’s shocking. The story about ‘The Beast’ [the presidential limo] — I don’t have words. It’s just stunning.” Oh yeah, they finally had him: “This paints a picture of Trump completely unhinged and completely losing all control which, for his base, they think of him as someone who is in command at all times. This completely flies in the face of that.”
At last, the ringleaders of the Jan. 6 media circus thought they had the credibility that for so long eluded them: “No one is taking this lightly,” said CNN’s anonymous Trump aide: “For the first time since the hearings started, no one is dismissing this.”
Yeah, sure. In reality, the whole thing was a frame job from beginning to end, as Trump himself pointed out Monday: “Well, they actually did destroy evidence. They deleted evidence. These are really sick people. You know, I talk about the enemy from within, and the enemy from without; the enemy on the outside, and the enemy on the inside. And I’ll tell you what, in many ways, the enemy on the inside is far more dangerous than China and Russia. And all of it, these are really bad people. And actually, they are insurrectionists. When you see things like you’ve found out today, and over the last couple of weeks, they really are insurrectionists.”

When the man is right, he’s right. The real insurrection is not some grandmothers snapping selfies and a guy with Viking horns walking around the Capitol on Jan. 6. The real insurrection is the Democrats’ ongoing efforts to delegitimize loyal opposition in the United States and allow only their own point of view to be heard in the public square. This insurrection started well before Old Joe Biden’s infamous red speech last September, in which he declared that “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic,” thereby ruling half of the American electorate outside the bounds of acceptable political discourse. Still, that speech made the Biden regime’s agenda abundantly clear.
In light of that agenda, it’s no surprise that the regime’s stories about how evil Trump is would fall apart. They were all propaganda in the first place. They are all just exercises of the principle that if you repeat a big lie often enough, people will start believing it. And it works: just look around you.
