Is Spanish Still a Foreign Language in the U.S.?

Even though Spanish was spoken in what is now the United States long before English was, it has always been regarded as a foreign language. And even though it is the second most spoken language in the country, and even though there will be an estimated 150 million American Español speakers by 2050, it is still minimized. Should it be? Should English be made the official language? Or should we embrace our Spanish speakers?
