More than 20 people overdosed at the Ohio Dreams EST—Everybody Stands Together—festival in Butler, Ohio, after ingesting a substance that looked like Nerds candy but was laced with a high concentration of THC, the mind-altering drug found in the cannabis plant.
From the Mansfield News Journal:
Richland County Sheriff’s Maj. Joe Masi said none of the people died. They were at Ohio Dreams, an action sports camp, for a weekend concert.
Masi said the concert-goers were given packets between 10 and 11 a.m. The packets were marked “Nerds,” which is a type of candy.
“There were about 20 pieces in each one,” Masi said. “Each had a very, very high dose of THC. We have not seen this stuff in our area before.”

According to Masi, the victims were treated with naloxone, which is usually given to those who have overdosed on opiates.
“What likely happened is whoever passed these out did not give the people any instructions,” Masi said.
The EST Fest, billed as “The Last Weekend on Earth,” began on Friday and is to conclude on Saturday with a concert by Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly.
