In a breathtaking display of hypocrisy, Senate Democrats — after bemoaning the firing of federal employees—are now on the verge of forcing a government shutdown, which will put even more out of work — and their excuse is completely ridiculous. On Wednesday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer self-righteously complained that Republicans didn’t ask for Democratic “input” on their funding bill. Oh, the horror!
"Republicans do not have the votes in the Senate to invoke cloture on the House CR," Schumer proclaimed. The GOP needs just eight Democratic votes to keep the government running past March 14, and, as PJ Media previously reported, it looked like some Democrats were going to vote for it. But as of now, it seems as though not enough will.
The House has already done its job, passing a continuing resolution with a 217-213 vote on Tuesday. President Trump stands ready to sign responsible funding legislation. But that's not good enough for Democrats, who are now demanding a "clean" one-month funding bill until April 11.
“Funding the government should be a bipartisan effort but Republicans chose a partisan path, drafting their continuing resolution without any input — any input — from congressional Democrats,” Schumer said in remarks on the Senate floor. “Because of that, Republicans do not have the votes in the Senate to invoke cloture on the House CR.”

That’s their excuse for forcing a shutdown? Do they really think anyone’s buying it? This is the same game they play every time they’re in the minority — suddenly, “bipartisanship” becomes their favorite word. But the moment they’re in power, they bulldoze their agenda through without a second thought for compromise.
Remember, these are the same folks who rammed through Obamacare without any Republican input or support vote, completely overhauling American healthcare. This is the same party that pushed through Biden's massive COVID stimulus package in 2021 on a strict party-line vote, helping trigger historic inflation.

But now the Democrats are deeply concerned about "bipartisan input"? Their crocodile tears over the lack of cooperation would be more convincing if they hadn't spent years proving that bipartisanship only matters when they're not in power.
Democrats have been peddling their usual lines about the CR for a while, claiming that it slashes healthcare and veterans’ benefits while giving tax cuts for the rich — which, of course, isn’t true. Fearmongering about nonexistent cuts is just part of their playbook, a tactic they use to protect their own corrupt spending. We all know that Democrats don’t care about responsible governance. They’re desperate to keep the swamp’s secrets buried, and they see a shutdown as a way to shield their allies from accountability. That’s the real reason they want to shut down the government: They want to stop the Department of Government Efficiency.
“We need Elon to keep doing his work at DOGE,” said Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas). “We need all of that great team to deliver, and then we can insert that into appropriations this summer for FY26.”
If the government shuts down, Americans should remember who chose political grandstanding over practical solutions. The Democratic Party's newfound love for bipartisanship isn't about principle; it's about power. And their hypocrisy couldn't be more obvious.
