PJ Media Parenting's Best of the Web — July 7

patriotic family picnic, 4th of July, Memorial Day

Welcome to July! I love summer. I love the hot, humid weather that I crave in the frigid winter. And while Ohio provides us a rather fickle summer, we are enjoying the surprise of each day!

July is for entertaining! A chance to enjoy the long summer evenings with friends and family. This blog is an inspired idea that would be fun for kids or an adults only dinner! What would you add to the mix? I’d love to see some fruit and simple cheeses for kids, and maybe a tasting test at the end to make it more interactive for the whole family!

As I was writing this, my 4-year-old daughter was sitting with me and she exclaimed, “Oh let’s make that!” Simple and clear directions make for a fun morning adventure with your little chefs. Can you imagine the color combinations? The possibilities are endless! When you make yours, please tag me (#pjparenting), I’d love to see what your little chefs come up with!

Lay Baby Lay has unique and fun ideas to use in your weekend (check out her Unicorn Food!).

I had no idea what a sabich was before reading this post!  But, I am now ready to add it to my weekly shopping list:

Sabich is a Iraqi-Israeli sandwich (you can read about their history here—RIP Lucky Peach!) that consists of pan-fried eggplant, hard boiled egg, hummus…all eaten in a pita. It’s typically eaten for breakfast (hence the iced coffee pictured) and it is SO good. It’s totally acceptable to eat this breakfast, lunch or dinner.”

Currently, I’m in the middle of trying to instill new habits and hobbies in my house—teaching my littlest to use the potty, showing my oldest that sticking to a new hobby (like tennis) takes patience, and I’m really trying to get better at making more recipes at home. It can be so easy to just let any new teaching moment pass by, but consistency is key. So, along with my friends at BAND-AID Brand, I wanted to share a few tips I’ve learned that might help you to stick with it through challenges big and small…

Oh Joy! is a fun and exciting blog, don’t miss it!

I loved this find! A summer-themed grocery list! Lots of ideas to incorporate into your budget and meal planning. I’m always at a loss for what’s in season, and now I know!

I put together a shopping list of summer staples in my kitchen that I like to rotate throughout the season. I wanted to provide you with plenty of options to choose from that you will enjoy, but the list obviously doesn’t include everything you could purchase. There are so many wonderful, healthy foods out there, but this list hopefully will help get you started and give you some great ideas! Please also know that I don’t buy everything on this list at once. I refer to this list throughout the season for  ideas!
