Breastfeeding can be a beautiful thing, as many moms know. But maintaining the practice can be very difficult, especially for working mothers. But working or not, most women who choose to breastfeed find themselves pumping at one point or another – and that can be downright annoying. Pumping can be uncomfortable, messy, inconvenient, and even discouraging to some moms. Plus, the technology for pumps has barely been updated since they first hit the market decades ago.
Luckily, more engineers and healthcare providers have recently been focused on improving the pumping experience for new moms. Recently, breastfeeding giant, Lansinoh, released the next generation of breast pump, and it’s pretty great.
The Smartpump Double Electric Breast Pump connects via Bluetooth to a correlating phone application. The result is an incredible improvement from traditional pumps.
The pump itself has “three customizable pumping styles — there are eight independently adjustable suction levels — to provide the comfort setting that works best for the individual. And similar to the fitness apps that are popular now, the app for the pump tracks levels of milk pumped over time, and can also help moms track information about diaper changes, baby’s growth and bottle feeds.
To keep things fun, here’s another feature of the app:
To help keep moms motivated, the app provides engaging feedback directly related to the amount of milk they pumped in their latest session. Whether they pumped enough vitamin E for two avocados or provided milk with the same amount of protein as a dozen eggs, the notifications help the most exhausted pumpers stay on track.
If you’ve made the decision to breastfeed your newborn, but are not looking forward to countless hours attached to a whirring, sucking machine, take comfort in the fact that the technology is finally improving!
