Girls gone wild is a certifiable Hollywood trend.
No, we’re not seeing our finest actresses losing their tops for our bemusement. Instead, it’s all about female characters getting as uninhibited as the boys.
Step aside Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and Seann William Scott. You’ve got company. Think “Bridesmaids,” “Sisters” and this summer’s “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.”
Now, Mila Kunis, Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Bell are embracing their inner brat via “Bad Moms.” The July 29th comedy finds a group of moms throwing up their hands at what’s expected of them.
Car pools. Gluten-free food. Homemade snacks for PTA coffee klatches. It’s enough to drive a mom to drink. And that’s exactly what these moms do. And then some, as the trailer teases.

Sometimes pop culture is hopelessly out of sync with society. Other times, it perfectly nails the zeitgeist. This might just be one such example.
Today’s parents are expected to be, well, perfect. Serve nutritious, home-cooked meals three times a day. Help at the local school. Teach their children to never bully, scold or insult their peers. Never, ever raise your voice when it’s time to discipline your child.
And look smashing while doing all of the above. Exhausted yet? It’s ok. There’s a women’s magazine article to help make it possible.
Parents do try to accomplish all that we expect of them. Most have the very best intentions. Yet sometimes the best way for a parent to keep sane is to hit the Burger King drive-thru and shelve the guilt for one night.
That’s where “Bad Moms” might hit pay dirt.
The cast is already crushing those sentiments on the promotional circuit. Kunis told an interviewer the information overload faced by moms is overwhelming. A potpourri of info-laden mommy blogs is part of the problem.
“It gives you a comparison headache,” Bell said, agreeing with her co-star.
The irony is that mommy blogs might be the biggest champion of the new film. Beyond their collective tips, tricks and hacks, their editors realize just how hard motherhood is. And, if a movie reminds moms the world over that it’s all right to be imperfect, they’ll likely rally around the message.
So might mothers across the country. Which means beyond the expected summer smashes like “X-Men: Apocalypse,” “Neighbors 2” and “Finding Dory,” “Bad Moms” could be the season’s sleeper hit. Even if moms could use a few Zzzz themselves before lining up to see it.
