Biden: Lawmakers Should 'Just Be Straight' to Carry On Cummings' Legacy

Vice President Joe Biden speaks with the press in Baltimore after the memorial service for Rep. Elijah Cummings.

BALTIMORE – Vice President Joe Biden, a Democratic presidential candidate, said on Friday that members of Congress should “just to be straight” and carry on the legacy of Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), who was the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee when he passed away.

When asked what she thinks would be the best way for members of Congress to carry on Cummings’ legacy, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) responded, “I think that it is to go to work every day and remember who you’re representing and what you’re doing and that’s the country.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) called Cummings the Oversight Committee’s “forever chairman.”

Cummings was reportedly signing subpoenas in the hospital as part of the House’s impeachment inquiry against President Trump.
