Releasing Transcript of Trump's Call with Ukraine President 'Unprecedented,' DNI Maguire Says

Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire said the public release of President Trump’s phone conversation with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky is “unprecedented” and might cause world leaders to be “more cautious in what they say” to U.S. presidents over the phone in the future.

“The president, when he conducts diplomacy and deals with foreign heads of state, he has every right to be able to have that information be held within the White House and the executive branch and yesterday I think the transmission of the call is unprecedented,” Maguire said during a hearing before House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence about the whistleblower’s complaint against Trump.

“And also I think that other future leaders, when they interact with our head of state, might be more cautious in what they say and reduce the interaction they have with the president because of that release,” he added.
