Since his failed bid to be president, Al Gore has spent all his time beating the climate change drum. This is impressive, since every prediction and most of the claims he made in his award-winning film An Inconvenient Truth did not pan out as he said they would. Yet Gore persists in telling the world that, even if he was wrong then, he’s totally worth listening to now.
Like when the former vice president says climate change is to blame for Brexit:
Brexit was caused in part by climate change, former US Vice-President Al Gore has said, warning that extreme weather is creating political instability “the world will find extremely difficult to deal with”.
One of the most controversial Leave campaign posters showed a queue of refugees stretching into the distance with the caption “Breaking point: The EU has failed us all”. The then-Chancellor, George Osborne, described the poster as “disgusting and vile” and, like others who explicitly compared it to Nazi propaganda, said it had “echoes of literature used in the 1930s”.
Mr Gore, whose new film An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power is due out in the UK in August, told an audience at the Advertising Week Europe event in London: “This collision between the power of industrial civilisation and the surprising fragility of the Earth’s ecosystem now poses a great danger that could even threaten the future of human civilisation itself.
“One of the lines of investigation [scientists] have been pursuing has led them to the conclusion that significant areas of the Middle East and North Africa are in danger of becoming uninhabitable.
Climate change: Is there nothing it can’t do?
Yes, Syria is in the midst of a horrible drought. Much of the Middle East is. However, this is not a unprecedented occurrence. Desert regions are known to have droughts every now and then.
Brexit was a political decision in response to a long list of political and military decisions made by others.
That’s like saying the scouts for the Washington Senators who didn’t put Fidel Castro on a roster are responsible for the Cuban Missile Crisis, or the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna is responsible for the Holocaust because they didn’t admit Adolf Hitler.
Leave it to the loony left to claim their pet catastrophe is the reason for everything bad in the world, and that everything would be better if we simply enact their totalitarian policies. Yes, it’s the same strategy every huckster has used throughout history.
