Multiple people were killed and injured and at least one person was in custody after a shooting rampage Saturday at a shopping mall, police in the Texas border town of El Paso said.

Police responded in the early afternoon to an active shooter scene at the Cielo Vista Mall, which is near Interstate 10 on east side of the city, and were advising people to stay away from the area.

Shortly after, Sgt. Enrique Carrillo, a police spokesman, said there were multiple victims, that a suspect was in custody and there was no longer danger to the public.

There are also reports of “several suspects” in custody.

We’ll have more as information becomes available.

The active shooter call came in at about 10 a.m. Saturday at the Walmart next to Cielo Vista Mall.

At least 20 people died and dozens of others were injured in the shooting, according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Between Del Sol and University medical centers, 24 patients — including two children — were taken to the hospitals for treatment.

The suspect may have harbored extremist, anti-immigration views, according to NBC:

Reports of multiple shooters were wrong. It was one man who “appeared to be on a mission,” according to one eyewitness.
