ICE Raids Targeting Illegal Immigrant Families Set to Begin This Weekend (Updated)

ICE will begin a huge roundup of illegal alien families this weekend.

Did I mention that every single family is under a deportation order? Must’ve slipped my mind. In truth, every major media outlet breathlessly reporting on this new outrage from the Trump administration is reporting the perfectly legal and lawful immigration enforcement action as if it were some kind of crime against humanity.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who famously sent out a social media blast last year warning illegal aliens of an imminent sweep by ICE, spoke for many who think enforcing the law of the land is unconscionable:

“This is not my America, this is not an appropriate use of executive power or elective power and I hope the American people hold him accountable,” Schaaf said at a news conference at her office Friday afternoon. “He has got to stop distracting from our need to fix a broken immigration system.”

Illegal immigrant advocates are apoplectic. How dare these heartless bureaucrats invade our cities to rip members from our community:

A real law and order guy, this mayor of LA. Makes me proud to be an American to know he’s way the hell out in Los Angeles and can’t do anything to hurt to me or mine.

So, the demonization of the men and women of ICE, who have been the subject of hysterical attacks by politicians looking to advance their careers, could easily provoke a violent response. If it does, we’ll know exactly whom to blame.

As for the raid itself, Trump gave an explanation that even an open borders fanatic could understand:

Despite the clear legality of the enforcement action, the Democrats’ need to pander outweighs their common sense:

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a statement that the city has taken steps to support immigrants families, and that ICE agents would get no assistance from the city.

“I reiterated that CPD will not cooperate with or facilitate any ICE enforcement,” said the first-term mayor. “I have directed – and Superintendent [Eddie] Johnson has confirmed – that CPD has terminated ICE’s access to CPD’s databases related to federal immigration enforcement activities.”

Meanwhile, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser said her city “remains a proud sanctuary city, and we are committed to protecting the rights of all our immigrant families in the face of these disturbing threats.”

Mayor Bowser got off the tweet of the day — unintentionally:

“Cruel” threats? “Antithetical to American values”? A narrowly targeted, entirely legal enforcement action by designated officers of the law against those who knew full well they were here illegally in violation of that law is somehow ICE’s fault? Whatever happened to individual responsibility? The rule of law? Common sense?

The world has turned upside down. Now, only enforcing laws that liberals tell us are enforceable will be tolerated. The rule of law is what they say it is and they get to pick and choose which groups will get favorable treatment from their government. Is it a coincidence that the “favored groups” vote Democrat?

Welcome to the banana republic that used to be America.

Update 4:17 EST:

Donald Trump said today that he was pushing back the date for deporting thousands of families who were defying a court order to leave the country.

He said the delay was to give Congress a chance “to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border.”

“If not, Deportations start!” he warned.

Earlier, Trump told reporters that the raids were legal and necessary:

Washington Post:

Speaking to reporters at the White House lawn before departing for Camp David on Saturday morning, Trump said that “exportation raids are groups of very, very good law enforcement people going by the law, going by our court system taking people out who came in illegally and out legally.”

He anticipated that “some cities are going to fight it,” but claimed that the resistance was from sanctuary cities, which, along with some states, have policies aimed at protecting undocumented immigrants from deportation.

But hours later he tweeted the delay.

It’s possible that ICE requested the delay after so many cities and states promised not to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. Trump made note of that in his remarks:

Chicago Sun-Times:

”Some cities are going to fight it,” Trump said. “If you notice, they are generally high-crime cities. If you look at Chicago, they are fighting it and if you look at the other cities that are fighting it, many of those cities are high-crime cities and they are sanctuary cities.”

A majority of Democrats won’t agree to any reforms that include deporting illegal aliens — even if they have been lawfully told to leave. Expect the deportations to begin shortly.
