A 14-year-old girl in Maryland was dragged into a men’s room at her school by two older illegal alien classmates who proceeded to rape and sodomize her.
The two suspects were 17 and 18 years old. Despite that, they were in the same ninth grade class as their victim, leading to questions about the wisdom of placing nearly illiterate, non-English speaking illegal immigrants in classes attended by younger American children.
The horrific attack Thursday, in a Rockville, Md., high school bathroom, grimly underscores the challenge of enrolling upper-teen illegal immigrants with poor language skills in public schools. The suspects in the attack were both in ninth grade, as was their victim. One, identified by police as Henry E. Sanchez-Milian, had been caught crossing the Mexican border just months ago.
“The surge of Central American kids has become a significant problem in many of the school districts where they are allowed to re-settle,” said Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies for the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Immigration Studies. “It’s not uncommon for older kids to be placed in the lower high school grades with much younger kids, because they usually have had only a few years of schooling in their home country.”
Sanchez-Milian, a native of Guatemala, and Jose O. Montano, 17, from El Salvador, were charged with first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sexual offense. Court records say they dragged the girl into a men’s bathroom, where they allegedly violently raped, sodomized and forced her to perform oral sex in a stall.
It is common for that school system to have adults with limited English speaking skills enrolled as freshman, Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Smith told Fox 5 DC.
“We have a lot of 18-year-olds in our schools,” Smith said. “Our student was actually in a METS [Multidisciplinary Educational Training and Support] Program for English learners and that is a program we have across the system, and so, it is not a matter of what grade they were in, but the student was in a program for English learners.”
Vaughan said other students and their parents have no way of knowing which classmates are illegal immigrants – in some cases adults – or what dangers they may pose.
“Some have severe mental health problems resulting from broken families or parental neglect, exposure to violence in their home country, and a traumatic experience coming here illegally,” Vaughan said.
This is a perfect example of a political agenda taking precedence over the security and safety of children. Note the school superintendent’s comments on the incident. Because the animals were in one of the numerous alphabet soup programs (METS) fostered by illegal immigrant activists, they could “mainstream” older illegal aliens and place them in the same classroom with little girls. It’s not the school’s fault, he’s saying. We had those thugs in a program.
These young men, who grew up in a place far more violent than any American kid, had no business in a mainstream school — especially since they were hopelessly behind academically, if not culturally and emotionally. Here’s the criteria for these young adults being placed in an inappropriate grade:
The METS program of the Montgomery County Public Schools is designed to meet the linguistic and academic needs of English language learners who have had limited or no previous schooling or significant schooling gaps due to interrupted or disrupted education. Students enrolled in the METS program receive instruction in developing English language proficiency and basic literacy and academic skills. Students also receive instruction and support to facilitate adjustment to both the academic and social school environment. The purpose of the METS program is to develop English language proficiency and literacy while providing the instruction and support with academics that will help narrow students’ educational gaps and facilitate articulation to non-METS classes.
Incredible. These young men sit in class all day, barely understanding a word of what the teacher is saying, and are expected to adapt to their new environment in order to “narrow” the gap between kids who’ve been in school for 8 or 9 years and young adults who never saw the inside of a classroom?
I see no way many of these illiterate, non-English speaking illegals will ever become productive members of society. They will be wards of the state until the day they die. How many will act out their frustration like the two animals who attacked the 14-year-old girl? More than the educators and illegal alien activists will dare to admit.
