Beyonce decided to make a political statement at MTV’s Video Music Awards (VMAs) last night, bringing some Black Lives Matter moms to the awards show and having her backup dancers get “shot” during their performance.
The mothers of Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and Oscar Grant came to the awards show. All the mothers except Grant appear in Beyonce’s visual album “Lemonade” holding pictures of their sons.
While performing a medley of songs from her hit album, Lemonade, the pop megastar was surrounded by backup dancers dressed as angels.
However, as red lights flooded the stage, each of the ‘angels’ was shot down during the performance, which viewers said was a representation of police brutality.

Sybrina Fulton, Gwen Carr, Lesley McSpadden, and Wanda Johnson – the mothers of Martin, Garner, Brown and Grant respectively – posed for pictures with the pop superstar and the rest of her entourage outside the event at Madison Square Garden.

“Our clients were honored that out of the hundreds of mothers who unfortunately have to join a growing group of women who lose children to senseless gun violence that Beyoncé selected their sons to honor,” Benjamin Crump told the Tallahassee Democrat back in April. “They were very pleased that she would use her platform to promote and raise awareness of the need for change”.
The mothers of police officers slain in the line of duty were nowhere to be found at the awards show.
