The Morning Briefing: Vegas Massacre, 2020, the Border and Much, Much More

Good Wednesday morning.

Here is what’s on the president’s agenda today:

  • The president receives his intelligence briefing

FBI sez: ¯_(ツ)_/¯ about Vegas massacre

Lordy! What a disappointment.

The FBI has found no clear motive for the killing of 58 people by a sniper firing down at an outdoor concert in Las Vegas in 2017, the agency said on Tuesday as it closed an investigation into the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

No clear motive. Do you believe this? I do not, partly because this was such a large-scale operation that I find it hard to believe not a single email, internet browser visit, or comment to friends, family or associates could shed light on this monster’s motive. And then I am skeptical partly because the FBI is a clown operation that has employed jackasses and conspirators like Peter Strzok and “Andy’s office” McCabe. We have no idea how many Strzoks and McCabes have not yet been exposed and are currently working on important cases. Maybe they worked on the Vegas case?

2020 landscape

Lots of activity lately from the Democrats who have thrown their hat (or bonnet) in the ring for president. Let’s review. Starbucks guy is running as a NOTCRAZYSOCIALIST. He seems to have some basic understanding of economics, criticizing Kamala Harris’s Medicare for all plan. The Democrats are freaking out because Starbucks guy wants to run as an independent and could spoil the Democrats’ plan to take back the White House.

A friend and supporter of woman of color presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren also chimed in with some hits on Starbucks guy. “I first met Howard in 1984 and he’s done a lot for coffee, but right now he’s out of his depth on a vanity run for the presidency,” Todd Carmichael, the millionaire co-founder of La Colombe Coffee Roasters, told POLITICO. “Of course a billionaire would complain about a tax on billionaires, but it doesn’t mean it’s good policy for America.”

Kamala is doubling down on her Medicare for all position. Has anyone asked her what the effect of wiping out the private healthcare market would be on employment levels? Does she know how many jobs would be lost if we close down the insurance industry? Certainly no media will ask her these questions.

Say it ain’t so: Podesta says Hillary will not run in 2020. “I think this is media catnip,” Podesta said on CNN Tuesday night. “I take her at her word. She’s not running for president.” Last weekend CNN political reporter Jeff Zeleny said: “I’m told by three people that as recently as this week, she was telling people that look, given all this news from the indictments, particularly the Roger Stone indictment, she talked to several people, saying ‘Look, I’m not closing the doors to this.’” We all know how accurate CNN is, so I guess she will not run.

The latest on the border fight

According to Politico, the border deal battle is over before it even started.

Congressional negotiators haven’t even held their first meeting to avert another shutdown, but the prospect of a big deal on border security and immigration is essentially dead.

When President Donald Trump caved in on the 35-day shutdown fight last week, he encouraged Congress to come up with a compromise — perhaps a trade of wall funding for temporary relief for Dreamers as he had previously proposed.

But Democrats are ruling out the idea of negotiating on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, skeptical that Trump would actually provide a permanent fix for the young undocumented immigrants after he previously rejected just such a deal. Meanwhile, top Republicans also doubt an expansive agreement could be put together in the next three weeks.

That’s too bad. I have no doubt that Trump will announce a state of emergency to get his wall funding. Eric Trump agrees with me.
