The Morning Briefing: DACA to End and Much, Much More

Good Monday morning and Happy Labor Day!

The president has no public events on the schedule.

Trump to end DACA

Sources are saying that President Trump is going to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.  CNN reports:

Two of the sources said the plan is to have a six-month delay in any action regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to allow Congress time to pass a fix through legislation that would allow the undocumented immigrants to stay in the country.

Indeed. If Congress is inclined, they can “fix” the program. Making laws is beyond the scope of the president’s authority. The DACA program is just one of the many instances where Obama decided to transcend his enumerated responsibilities to make some laws. The government is facing lawsuits from ten different states over the DACA program.

The same people who are freaking out over ending DACA are the same people who are screaming that the president doesn’t have the authority to issue his travel ban.
