A woman in Portland, Oregon, returned home with her two young children, aged 5 and 10, to find an intruder lurking in one of the children’s bedrooms, according to police.
The mother shot and killed the intruder.
Officers went to the woman’s home around 1:45 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a homeowner shooting someone inside her home.
The woman, 33, said she had returned home with her two children, ages 5 and 10, when she found a stranger in one of her child’s bedrooms. She was armed with a handgun and fired at least one shot at the man.
Police said the 59-year-old intruder was found dead at the scene.
The mother is cooperating with law enforcement.
Officers did not arrest the homeowner, who they said was cooperating with investigators. Once the investigation is finished, the case will be presented to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether any charges will be filed.
Firearms are the great equalizer. Kudos to this woman for protecting her family.
