The German Shepherd is the favorite, writes the NY Daily News.

It’s my favorite, too. I grew up with German Shepherds, so I’m completely biased.

The buzz of the show surrounds a nice-looking German Shepherd named “Rumor” — her complete kennel name is “Rumor Has It.”

Rumor won her group yesterday and will compete in the final as the representative from the herding group. She defeated the Australian Shepherd, the Border Collie, and the Puli.

“She showed great. She’s a super nice representative of German Shepherds,” said handler Kent Boyles, an Edgerton, Wisconsin, resident. “Structurally, she’s near perfect, very close to the standard.”

Asked what she loves most about Rumor, owner Pamela Buckles said, “Her heart. The love and affection she shows me. I just think she’s beautiful.”

Results from the other groups: the Borzoi won the hound group; the Shih Tzu won the toy group; and the Bulldog won the non-sporting group.  The sporting, working, and terrier groups will be decided today.

The last time a German Shepherd won the Westminster was in 1987. The dog was BIS Ch. Covey-Tucker Hill’s Manhattan, handled by Jimmy Moses.
