At some point, most of us have had to decide what to do with a loved one who’s getting on in years and no longer has all his marbles. It’s never an easy decision, figuring out the right facility. And it’s even tougher when you’re the Democratic Party, and the home you want to put the old codger in is the White House.
Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. is only the second-oldest Democrat running for president in 2020, but at least Bernie seems to know where he is at all times. Joe really seems to be losing his already-tenuous grasp of reality. He’s always been a gaffe machine, of course, but in recent weeks he’s really been cranking out the crazy. He forgot when the Kennedys were assassinated. He claimed he was vice president during the Parkland shooting. He talked about how lovely it was to be in Vermont, when he was standing in New Hampshire. He said, and this is a direct quote: “Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.” And that’s not even counting all his groping of women and girls, for which he briefly apologized and then went right back to doing.
By the time you read this, Joe has probably said two or three other weird, dumb things today. So what’s the deal? Is this just Biden being Biden, or is he really losing his mind?
After months of gaffes on the 2020 campaign trail prompting even his brain surgeon to chime in and defend his mind, Biden made a pointed comment about the state of his brain over the weekend. “I want to be clear, I’m not going nuts,” Biden said during a campaign rally in New Hampshire — a comment that surely extended beyond the confusion he was trying to clear up at the time, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Biden made the declaration while speaking to supporters at New Hampshire’s Loon Lake, defending his inability to remember just where he’d spoken at Dartmouth College a few hours earlier. “I’m not sure whether it was the medical school or where the hell I spoke. But it was on the campus,” he said, looking at the gathered reporters as he did it, per the Times.
Which raises that age-old question, older than even Joe Biden: If a guy is crazy, does he know he’s crazy?
I’m starting to warm up to the idea of a Trump/Biden contest. Grumpy Old Men 3. They’re pretty evenly matched, in terms of entertainment value. And that’s what this is all about. Isn’t it time we all stopped pretending any of this stuff really matters? Isn’t it time to embrace the chaos? This is all just a circus, so send in the clowns.
