Clinton Campaign, DNC Paid for Oppo Research that Led to Discredited Anti-Trump Dossier

In a textbook example of liberal projection, Hillary Clinton said in a recent interview  that “the REAL story here is how nervous they [team Trump] are about these continuing investigations.”

That’s a fascinating take because while no collusion has been found between President Trump and the Russians, allegations of collusion between Hillary and her allies and Russia are starting to pile up.

The Washington Post finally admitted today that the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign helped pay for the opposition research that resulted in the discredited “dodgy dossier” alleging  collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Also, contrary to popular belief, it appears that rather than Paul Manafort’s ties to the Trump campaign, it is Manafort’s ties to Clinton’s friends, the Podesta brothers, that have become a central factor in the Mueller investigation.  According to a well-placed source, Manafort and the Podesta brothers had worked together on behalf of Russia with the blessing of the Obama administration since at least 2011.

A source who used to work for the Podesta Group told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tuesday night  that Manafort for years “was representing Russian business and political interests who sought to influence Capitol Hill, Hillary Clinton’s State Department, and the Obama administration.”

Meanwhile, according to the Washington Post, the opposition research firm Fusion GPS was retained in April 2016 by Marc Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign, and the DNC.

Fusion GPS hired former British spy Christopher Steele to conduct the research. Steele went on to share some of his findings with the FBI, which may have used the information to obtain a FISA warrant. Elias has “vigorously” denied his involvement in the anti-Trump dossier for a year, according to reports. He had no comment on the Washington Post story.

The Post also alleges that “Fusion GPS’s work researching Trump began during the Republican presidential primaries, when the GOP donor paid for the firm to investigate” Donald Trump’s background — but that is not at all clear.

The managers of the Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, and John Kasich campaigns have all told the Examiner‘s Byron York that they knew nothing about a GOP-funded oppo-research project on Trump. Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson has refused to answer the question about who bankrolled the dossier.

“If there’s collusion, it’s Hillary/Russia collusion — not Trump/Russia collusion,” said Fox News host and attorney Gregg Jarrett on Hannity Tuesday night.

“It’s like the last scene from that great Tom Clancy movie, The Hunt for Red October, where the bad submarine commander launches the torpedo and it comes back and it sinks his own vessel,” said former deputy assistant to the president Sebastian Gorka.

“That’s what the Russian collusion story has done for the DNC and for Hillary,” Gorka added. “Let’s stop using the word “collusion” because the evidence we now have is about subversion, it’s about sabotaging the political process and it’s about propaganda.  In the cold war, the Soviet Union used what was called active measures to undermine our democracy. This is the Democrat party, this is the Hillary campaign using active measures to undermine Donald Trump and to undermine the democratic process in America…. It is a shocking story.”
